APA Editorial Photographer - Vice President
APA Editorial Photographers VP Brian Smale is a photographer based in Seattle.
Originally from Canada, where they don't have written contracts (all business in Canada is done with a hearty handshake and a friendly smile), Brian was shocked (SHOCKED!) to hear of such formality, and he made it his mission to understand these strange ways. The Canadian is normally a shy creature, reluctant to reveal itself in pubic (William Shatner is the one known exception to this rule), however we have coaxed Mr. Smale out of his shell, by offering him beer and a sack of shiny beads. You can see his work at: www.BrianSmale.com.

Professional Fashion Photographer
I was fortunate enough to discover my interest in photography when I was fifteen, and since then I have worked to define my style as a business owner and a photographer to share my vision and experience with an international audience. I began by shooting Fine art photography & experimental self-portraiture in my hometown of the West Midlands, England before I transitioned into the ever-changing world of fashion photography.
At seventeen, I started my own photography business and soon found myself shooting for portrait clients, book publishers and music labels throughout the UK. However, I was eager to grow as an artist and extend my business internationally, so I moved to London to connect with creatives in the photography industry and push my boundaries as a photographer.
I am influenced by past and present style & whenever I shoot I like to create stories with an underlying sense of narrative, whether this is in my personal work, commercial campaigns or editorial projects. I am deeply inspired by elements of influential style, film noir, old masters in painting and photography, Romanticism and untouched beauty. All of my experiences in life thus far have been reflected through my imagery, and continue to shape me personally, and as an artist.
In 2011, I made the move to New York City and this is where where I currently live, dividing my time between the US & Europe for assignments.

Sarah's love of photography began as a child when she assisted her grandfather in his studio darkroom. From that time forward, a camera was never far from her hand. Studying both classical and modern dance from an equally young age, Sarah has always had an appreciation of movement. After completing her first degree in Middle East studies from Vassar College, she found that her true calling was to combine both of her passions: photography and movement. She applied for graduate studies in photography at the School of Visual Arts in New York City.
While finishing her Master's Degree in Photography, Sarah was chosen to shoot for Surface Magazine's Avant Guardian issue. This fashion shoot marked the true beginning of Sarah's professional career as a photographer. Using dancers as models in high fashion, Sarah's style gelled. It was while Sarah was planning her thesis that she recognized the importance of technology in her work. She adopted a completely digital workflow in March of 2001 and has been shooting with a medium format digital back ever since.
This digital element in her work has also helped her to form relationships with Hasselblad, Sinar, Broncolor, Moab Paper, ColorVision and Adobe. In Addition, for the 2003 year Sarah was chosen to join twelve photographers (legends Joyce Tenneson and Patrick Demarchelier are included in that list) as a Hasselblad Master.
