Demo: The essence of subject

2:00 PM - 3:00 PM

Tim Hogan

In this talk I'll be exploring the photographers task of bringing out the essence of his subject. Whether it is a portrait or still life - as a photographer my goal to capture something that transcends a simple record of a subject and brings out its core qualities. It does not matter if those qualities are what we would categorize as "beautiful" or "ugly", "good" or "bad", "old" or "new" .  To illustrate this concept I will be drawing from my current photographic and documentary film project, theFINproject: The Art and Story of the Surfboard Fin. Using Hasselblad Multi-Shot backs exclusively including the H4D-50MS and H5D-200MS,  I will discuss how the unmatched image quality allows me as a photographer to draw out every nuance of the fins - where every scratch, bubble and fiber communicates their history and personality.

Seminar: Lightweight location lighting

You may not always have the budget or the man power to go big on location, but that doesn’t mean the final photos have to suffer for it. Demo: The magic of simple lighting

10:30 AM - 12:00 PM

André Rowe

We have all heard it before, “With more lights, you can do more.” Although this is true, it is still a reality that with only a single light, you can still do more with just a bit of imagination. Outdoors, the sun is a single light source, in which anything else that you incorporate becomes a fill, in most cases. Indoors however, your single lampbase takes the place of the sun, if only to a limited capacity. It is within that limitation however, that some of your truest creativity lies in wait. We will be discussing and demonstrating what  can be accomplished with a single lamp base and choice Broncolor modifiers.
